The Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht Zentrum für Material and Costal Research GmbH (HZG) is one of 18 members of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres, Germany’s largest science organisation. HZG is located in Geesthacht near Hamburg with branches in Teltow near Berlin and in Hamburg, with a total staff of approximately 1100 employees, including about 750 scientists, engineers and technicians.
The main HZG research areas cover materials science with focus on advanced engineering materials, research with neutrons and synchrotron radiation and regenerative medicine, as well as environmental research focusing on marine, coastal and polar systems; all these are closely embedded in research fields of the Helmholtz Association. Extensive experimental and testing facilities, pilot plants, mainframe computers, a research vessel and environmental monitoring facilities complement the HZG research platforms. more

Institut de Soudure

Islogo

Institut de Soudure Association is a non-profit association (80 employees) created in 1905 and the French technical center (Headquarters – Villepinte – France) for welding and allied techniques (mechanical characterization, NDT, etc.). It was founded to help industrial shops to use acetylene gas safely and contributed to the creation of two post-graduation schools. Still today, IS is an active member of the International Institute of Welding (IIW) that it co-founded in 1948. More recently, it has been a founding member of several associations in charge of pressure vessels safety (AFIAP, AQUAP and ASAP) and NDT (COFREND). Today it has about 290 Industrial members registered and it keeps them informed about recent developments in joining related issues. IS uses all the available skills, know-how and facilities – particularly in its Research and Development (R&D) centre located in Yutz (East of France) – to devise innovative solutions, which industry will need tomorrow. The R&D encompasses three technology platforms (Joining, Mechanical characterisation and NDT). IS is involved with two educations institutions ESSA and EAPS, which are devoted to train technicians and engineers for welding and its allied technology. more

Belgian Welding Institute

Bwilogo

The Belgian Welding Institute (BWI) is a collective research centre. BWI has extensive recognised expertise in testing of materials and a worldwide reputation in testing of weldments. It is an independent non-profit organisation, combining the functions of research and development, education, training and transferring knowledge and all service relevant information to the industry. BWI has a team of 25 experienced researchers with backgrounds in welding, metallurgy, mechanical and civil engineering.
BWI has more than 30 years of experience in research for welding and related technologies, weldability of various materials and the behaviour of welded components and structures in service. It has carried out research with many of the existing technologies and has assisted companies with the implementation. The necessary knowledge to execute the proposed project is therefore to a large extent available. more
